Andover Time Ring - Cockatrice Mosaic
Abbey legend set in stone as Time Ring icon.
The Cockatrice of local legend will soon be turned into stone and take its place in history – as part of Andover Time Ring.
The vile creature is said to have lived in the dungeon cellars of Wherwell Abbey, preying on innocent victims.
The sponsors of the colourful and dramatic icon are SSI Schaefer. Having moved to the area three years ago the company is committed to supporting the local community and is delighted to be involved with this artefact of Andover history.
The Andover Time Ring in its entirety measures seven meters in diameter and represents the history of Andover from the Iron Age through to the Industrial Revolution. Each image is captured in one of ten hand-crafted mosaic icons.
The Andover Time Ring is due to be laid in the High Street early in 1999.
