Wherwell WI elects President and Committee, 1952
Mrs. Liddell, Vice-President, was in the chair in the absence of Mrs. Watson, President, through illness, and the chief business was the election of President, Vice-Presidents and Committee for the next year. It resulted in Mrs. Watson being again elected as President and Mrs. Liddell as Vice-President, and Mrs. Medlicott. as a new Vice-President. Other members of the Committee elected are Mrs. Cooke (who becomes the new Secretary), Mrs. Doswell, Mrs. Hunt, Mrs. Jenkins, Mrs. Jewitt, Mrs. Perry, Mrs. Roughton, Mrs. Thomas (Treasurer) and Mrs. White.
As Mrs. Watson was absent, Mrs. Strugnell asked the members to pass a vote of thanks to her for the enthusiasm which she brought to the work of the Institute and for the help she gave to all its many activities. This was warmly accorded by all the members. Mrs. Jewitt, the
retiring Secretary, read her report of the year’s work which showed that although Wherwell was a very small Institute it had proved a worthy member of the great Federation. Mrs. Hunt (Hon. Treasurer) presented the accounts (audited by Mr. Watson) which, owing to the successful sale on 3rd December, were in a healthy state. Mrs. Liddell said that the members
were all looking forward to the Christmas party on 17th December, when the Institute would welcome their elder friends in the village. She also thanked the two members from Goodworth Clatford Institute for being the tellers for the election. Finally she thanked everybody for the friendly atmosphere which pervaded the meetings, and hoped that next year would be a bright and happy one.
The competition (two mince pies), judged by Mrs. Young, was won by Mrs. Skuse, a new member. Tea was served by Mrs. Doswell and Mrs. Thomas, and Mrs. Greenland made the
cakes.
