Audrey Hansford. 1942 - 2021.
Eulogy.
Audrey Hansford. 22nd September, 1942 – 21st May, 2021
Service at St Marys Church, Hook and Warsash, 15th June 2021.
Audrey attended Rookesbury Park School after a short time at Salisbury Green School.
She later attended Wickham House school in Fareham.
From a small girl she spent hours drawing and painting. Very early on she wanted to be an artist and teach. Her mum was not over impressed by the apple Audrey had drawn, however her teacher explained that looking at the way it was drawn showed future artistic talent, which was proved right.
So after leaving Wickham House school she enrolled at the Southampton School of Art. After completing her studies there she applied for a job at Rookesbury Park school and for many years taught Art and R.E. She also joined the Warsash Art Group and exhibited her many paintings in Hampshire art shows.
After her marriage she extended her art work by sending to Cumbria to have the paintings turned into Greetings Cards and Limited Addition prints. Many local shops and Post Offices stocked her cards.
She also had a keen interest in the church and taught at the Sunday School at St. Pauls, Sarisbury Green.
Audrey loved her garden, there were many trips to Garden Centres. Each year the Romsey and New Forest Shows were a highlight. On one occasion returning with so many plants, the car boot packed full, and the three passengers holding large plants on their laps. ‘It was a moving glasshouse’.
Audrey loved entertaining and invited many to both Shepherds Cottage at Wherwell and Holly Ridge at Warsash. As those who participated will testify, no one left hungry.
For many years she entertained her husbands shooting parties at Wherwell during the Autumn. This was a major undertaking which involved both cottages, at Wherwell, all cheerfully undertaken and enjoyed.
Christmas and New Year was always spent at Wherwell with family and friends.
In the summer the gardens of Shepherds and Mount Cottages opened to the public with strawberries and Pimms during the Weekend Village open days.
She was a very good daughter and cared for her mother and father spending much time helping at their home.
She loved her dogs over the years. The loss of her last dog ‘Pepi’ hit her very hard.
Audrey was actually a very private person.
She will be missed by so many who knew her, both at Warsash and Wherwell and around the area.
