Bereavement Notice, Mr Fred Smith
Death of Mr. Fred Smith.
On Monday morning the tolling of the church bell intimated that, another old inhabitant of the village, Mr. Fred Smith, Room Cottages, had passed away. He was 78 years old. For a considerable time he had been in failing health, but he bore his sufferings with great patience. In his early days he worked at the brewery owned by Mr. F. After the brewery was closed he worked for some years on the Testcombe Estate, finally entering the service of Col. Grant, where he remained until the death of his employer. Of a retiring disposition, Mr. Smith was greatly respected by all in the village, and he was one of the oldest members of the Hampshire and General Friendly Society. At the funeral service yesterday afternoon the mourners were Mrs. A. Smith (wife), Mr. J. Smith (brother), Mr. L. Andrews (brother-in-law), Mr. A. Andrews nephew), Miss A. Andrews and Miss V. Smith nieces), Mrs. Smith (sister-in-law). Wreaths were sent by his Wife Alice ; Frank and Ada ; Fred, Olive and Victor ; Miss B. M. Grant; Mr . Hayes ; Sackley, Smith, and Melhuish; A. Andrews and family.
