Bereavement.
While sitting in his chair and reading the paper to his daughter on Sunday morning, Mr. Jesse Whitehouse died suddenly, at the age of 73. The news was heard with great regret in the village, for Mr. Whitehouse was well-known, especially in connection with his garden, in which he took so great a pride. A native of Birmingham and a gunsmith by trade, Mr. Whitehouse went to America in his early days, and when he retired he came to live in Chilbolton. Hie wife died some years previously. In the past few years he did not enjoy good health. He was a keen Conservative, and always took an active part at election time. The Rector (Canon Marsh) conducted the funeral service yesterday afternoon. Among the mourners were Mr. H. Whitehouse (son); Miss L. Whitehouse (daughter); Mr. and Mrs. Farrant (son-in-law and daughter); Mr. Roy Farrant (grandchild) ; Mr. J. Whitehouse and Mrs. W. H. Whitehouse (brother and sister-in-law); Misses Edith, Alice and Doris Whitehouse (nieces); Mr. A. Billingham (brother in law). The floral tributes included tokens from Harry, Maud and Muriel; Louie ; Brother and Sister, Joe and Mill ; Jessie, Ernest, and Roy ; Cinal and Jim ; all at Finchampstead ; Arthur and Gladys ; Mr. and Mrs. Saunders, Cissie and Bob ; Mr. and Mrs. Whale ; all at Cotswold ; Mr. and Mrs. Tucker.
