Book Presentation
With an enthusiastic membership of 50 children, Wherwell Sunday School on Saturday celebrated another year of achievement with a book presentation and tea party in the Colonel Jenkins Memorial Hall. “Our project for this year is an adoption of a child from the Tear Fund (a Christian charity organisation working overseas),’’ said Miss Phyliss Daubney, the Sunday School superintendent. Money-raising efforts during the year resulted in £214.
Outings had included a day at Swanage for 60 members and friends, the diocesan walk at Broughton, a picnic in Harewood Forest and five visits to Southampton ice rink. A holiday week-end in Swanage had been enjoyed by 23 children and a coach party of 60 had gone to the pantomime at Salisbury. Helping Miss Daubney with Sunday School services during the year were Angela Rowles (assistant teacher) and Cllr. John Morgan, Mayor of Test Valley Borough Council, who lives in Wherwell.
Presenting books to the children, the Vicar, the Rev Christopher Hubbard, said “Sunday School is not something isolated from everything else. It is part of our community and the support and encouragement of people is a vital thing.”
