His father was also a clergyman and retired to Longparish. They had 4 children Diana, Christina, Elfrida and Frank (emigrated to Canada and became a bank manager at Regina). Diana was baptised in Hythe, the other children were baptised in Wherwell. They retired to Branksome Park, Poole and remained there until their deaths. Christina continued to live there and was a teacher at Talbot Heath School, Bournemouth. She kept in touch with people in Wherwell and later on had communication with the Rev Williams, who allowed her ashes to be interred in the churchyard.
Entries in the Baptism registers
- March 21 1900, Diana Georgina daughter of Lawrence Cust LEE & Frederica Nepean LEE, born January 22 1900 in Wherwell
- March 3 1901, Christina Mary daughter of Laurence Cust LEE & Frederica Nepean LEE, Wherwell Vicarage, born December 25 1900
- October 5 1902, Elfrida Rochfort daughter of Laurence Cust LEE & Frederica Nepean LEE, Wherwell Vicarage, born September 8 1902
- December 4 1904, Alban Francis Rochfort son of Laurence Cust LEE & Frederica Nepean LEE, Wherwell vicarage, born October 10 1904 – Registered Rochfort Alban Lee (see note below) and occasionally transcribed using ‘Rockfort’.
Robin Stapleton (son of eldest child Diana Georgina) writes:
Frank is a bit of a mystery – the birth certificate states ‘Rochfort Alban’ – to me he was always Uncle Frank and on my Baptism certificate (1930) as a Godparent given as ‘Frank Lee’. I have never heard him referred to as anything other than Frank.
Another family member who has drawn up a Lee family tree has recorded Alban Rochfort (b. 10th October 1904) and Frank Thomas L (born 1905 and died 1993 in Canada) but I have never heard mention of a second boy in the family.
His daughter (adopted) in Canada says her father adopted the name ‘Frank’ and the obituary in the local Regina (Saskatchewan) newspaper records that ‘Lee – Alban “Frank” Rochfort’ passed away on 22nd September 1993 and is survived by his sisters in England (no mention of a brother!)
Rochfort is a family name which can be traced back to 1243 in Ireland. The ashes of Christina Mary Lee are buried in Wherwell churchyard.
