6: Julia Tilbury (my Aunt Daisy). Third child, and first daughter, of John Tilbury and Anna nee Judd: born at Dublin Farm, Wherwell, baptised 14 November 1375. Became the wife of the Rev. Elmer Thomas Coles (front row, no. 6). Died 22 August 1959.
7: Annie/Anna Tilbury (my Mother) Born at Dublin Farm, Wherwell, 21 November 1879, baptised 11 January 1880. Nurse, and later Sister Cornelius and Theatre Sister, Guy’s Hospital; was married at Southwark (now Cathedral) on 6 July 1915 to Dr John Adamson Edmond, also of Guy’s, who was killed (Captain, RAMC) in northern France or southern Belgium on 30 November 1917. Died 18 December 1960.

1. I think this is probably Francis Tilbury (uncle Frank), born at Knight’s Enham and baptised on 4 November 1885. He emigrated to New South Wales and worked on the railways (never returned to England). Died 1964?
2. Thomas Cole (presumably of Chilbolton). The records show that there were a number of Tilbury/Cole marriages over the centuries.

5. Arthur Tilbury (uncle Arthur). He too trained at Guy’s and went into the RAMC: drowned when the troopship Transylvania was torpedoed in the Mediterranean on 4 May 1917 on the way to Egypt where he was stationed. He was born at Knight’s Enham and baptised on 17 August 1887
6. The Rev. Elmer Thomas Coles, Rector of Knight’s Enham and Smannell. The Coles family came from Northamptonshire and Elmer Thomas was born at Weedon on l9 0ctober 1844 and baptised on 28 January 1845. He married Julia Tilbury, see back row, no. 6.
7. Mrs Lewis (see back row, no. 9), and on her lap their daughter ’Dodo’, later Mrs Arthur Waters.

9. Miss Sophia Gale (I remember her living in a cottage in Upper Enham when I was a child).
10. Minnie Tilbury (aunt Min). Born at Knight’s Enham, baptised 17 July 1889. Later married Dr Frederick Tillyard. Died 14 July 1974.
11. Mrs Mary Tilbury (aunt Mary). Born at Knight’s Enham, baptised 2 October 1883. Later lived at Sutton Scotney. Died 20 March 1951.
12. Unknown.
The seven children of Rev. Elmer Thomas and Julia Coles were:-
· Denys Elmer: (born 1900 & died 27 March 1983) became a director of Waygood-Otis
· Eliena Mary: (born 10 May 1903 & died 30 November 1994) taught domestic science, went to Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), there married John Slaven, headmaster of Prince Edward School
· Arthur Lambert: (died 23 November 1983) worked at Lloyds Bank, Andover
· Elmer John: farmed at Hothfield, Kent
· Robert Henry: (died 29 November 1985) insurance broker, City of London
· Thomas Elmer James: (born 1914) estate agent, Sevenoaks, Kent.
· Richard Francis: (born 1918 & died April 1963) Army.
(The two eldest children of John and Anna Tilbury – not in the photograph – were:
· John (uncle Jack), born Dublin Farm, Wherwell (baptised 15 December 1873) who farmed at Soake Farm, Denmead near Waterlooville
· Robert (uncle Bob), born Dublin Farm, Wherwell (baptised 3 May 1874 & died 21 September 1989) went to Guy’s hospital and had a practice at Peckham in south London where his brother Arthur, and very briefly my father John Edmond, were in partnership with him – later he lived in Welbeck Street, London W1 and then at Putney.
