The Duke who trained as an architect before taking up royal duties was visiting the new Testway Housing homes at Mill Court.
He toured one of the two-bedroom maisonettes which is home to a young couple with local links before meeting up with other villagers and those involved in the housing projects, in the village hall. The development at Mill Court also has five houses for sale which help to finance the affordable homes.
Testway’s managing director, Steve Benson, said:“We’re delighted the Duke of Gloucester has honoured us by visiting the new homes. We’re very proud of the Mill Court development. The homes blend superbly well into the village scene and they provide much needed affordable homes in a village where house prices are often beyond many of its traditional residents.”
Last year the average price of a house in Wherwell was almost £450,000 while rental of the affordable homes is £78 to £92 a week.
Before his arrival at Wherwell the Duke had been in Andover. He was greeted by the Mayor of Test Valley, Councillor Mrs Pamela Mutton, on his visit to Andover Day Services and Recycling Project
