Traffic may to a halt in nearby Stockbridge, as a mother duck and her ducklings cross the road. Ducks Friendly ducks inhabit Chilbolton Common and other local riverside areas. An added attraction at The Mayfly, customers often share the riverside with ducks and their ducklings! Ducks on River Ducks, moorhens and swans nest on the river and its banks on the Common. Film - "Sound Barrier" In 1951, Chilbolton Airfield was the location for a film called "Sound Barrier," starring Ann Todd, Ralph Richardson and Nigel Patrick. The film's plot was based on attempts to fly faster than the speed of sound. Football There are organised football teams in the village for men and boys meeting regularly on Chilbolton Memorial Playing Field. Mark is a keen footballer. Football Changing Room The changing rooms in the Memorial Playing Field pavilion have recently been updated. Football Club Peter is the manager of Chilbolton Boys' Football Club Under-13's team and a member of the Memorial Playing Field's Committee. Football Pitch Football is regularly played on the Playing Field and at the children’s school in Wherwell. Football Pitch and Players Patrick Smith is a keen footballer. He plays at school and he is a member of a local Football Club Fox head This dog-like wild animal with reddish-brown fur is rarely seen in the village, but the screech of the vixen is sometimes audible at night. The fox is a solitary creature, joining the vixen only in the mating season. Foxes Mainly nocturnal, the fox was a country-dweller. Now he has increased the range of his habitat, moving into villages, towns and suburbs.
