Road bridges cross the river at the Mayfly and on the outskirts of Wherwell, but the children, dog walkers and ramblers of the village are more familiar with the low narrow footbridges on the Common. Purleygig Bridge spans a shallow stretch of the river where children paddle in the summertime.
