Goldfinch and Teasel

Goldfinch & Teasel (right-hand panel)
Mike Gee

The goldfinch breeds in most parts of Hampshire, inhabiting large gardens, orchards, farmland and woodland. It feeds on weeds such as dandelions,
teasel and thistle. Teasel grows wild in grassy places such as meadows, hedgerows and riverbanks. The teasel plant has erect, prickly stems and pinkish-purple bristly flowers heads. The dried flower heads of the teasel were used in the past to raise the nap of cloth.
