Old School House

The Old School (centre panel)
Reverend Richard Durnford was Rector of Chilbolton from 1803 – 1830. He set up a school under the National system. In the 1830’s, the school was in the old blacksmith’s shop, but in 1843 the flint building near the Church (known as the Men’s Club) was opened as a purpose built school for the village. In the 1880’s there were approximately 80 children attending the school. The building was extended in 1878 to provide an Infant classroom. In 1931 the school was closed and the children transferred to the County Primary School at Wherwell. The old school building was used by Chilbolton Men’s Club until 2011.
