Lt. Commander Bezance (retired) embroidered the white ensign of the Royal Navy. There have been Navy personnel in Chilbolton, active and retired, as far back as the First World War. A previous owner of Bannuts served in the Battle of Jutland and Admiral of the Fleet Sir Varyl Begg lived at Copyhold Cottage.
