Trout Leaping

Trout Leaping (right-hand panel)
Mike Gee

The brown trout is indigenous to the River Test, but extensive fishing in the past caused their number to diminish. To restock the waters with a faster growing fish, the rainbow trout was introduced. Trout farms exist to create a supply of food and to stock the rivers for angling, but farming also ensures the conservation of the species, as trout often fail to establish a wild breeding population.
