Battle of Wherwell, 1642.
OneĀ of two cannon balls that landed at the front door of the Inn during the short battle that saw the Royalist army defeated and chased to Winchester by the Roundheads.
It is alleged that the other cannon ball was liberated by a US serviceman during the 2nd World War and its whereabouts are unknown.
The White Lion was once a coaching Inn and parts of it are known to date back to 1611.
