The unmistakable colours of the brimstone butterfly may be seen in open woods, rough flowery places and gardens. Its cream skittle-shaped eggs are laid on buds and the underside of leaves.  In winter the adult hibernates in holly or ivy, its leaf-like underside an excellent camouflage.
