Butterflies and Buddleia
Mike Gee
The buddleia, an ornamental shrub with long spikes of purple flowers, attracts many butterflies to the garden. Dennis’ two squares show butterflies prolific in the gardens of Chilbolton – the Gatekeeper, the Meadow Brown and the Peacock. The larvae of the Gatekeeper feed on fine-leaved grasses, the adult is fond of bramble blossom. The Peacock butterfly, with its unmistakable markings, enjoys the flowery environment of the garden, its larvae feeding on nettles.
