Robin

Robin on a holly branch with berries (right-hand panel)

Also called robin redbreast, this small songbird with a brown back and orange-red breast and face is a regular visitor in the gardens of Chilbolton. The fearless robin will stay close to any large animal – or gardener – as it knows the earth will be disturbed and insects easier to find! The bird’s distinctive red breast is not used for courtship but displayed to other robins to defend a territory.
