Chilbolton Cottage & Spring Cottage

Chilbolton Cottage is a 17th century lime-washed thatched cottage on the corner of Village Street and Winchester Street. Once known as Goaters Farm, the farmhouse was originally one property, but it was broken up and sold in the 1970’s as Chilbolton Cottage, Lilac Cottage and Heather Cottage. In the 1980’s Spring Cottage was sold as a separate
dwelling. Most of the land attached to the property was sold in the 1980’s to develop six homes (Paddock Field.) Garden Cottage, a small thatched property to the rear of the main house, was the home of the gardener.

Jenny Hamilton moved to Chilbolton Cottage in 1995. She kindly embroidered both squares to include Spring Cottage. The second square shows some of Chilbolton Cottage and Spring Cottage. The latter was part of the main house until the 1980’s. It is now a holiday haven for visitors to the Test Valley.
