Ted Smith lived at Daventry Cottage on Village Street until the death of his mother, at which time he sold the cottage and moved into a new bungalow (Winston) in the grounds. For most of his life Ted was a shepherd,but at weekends he was the village barber, conducting business from his wooden garden shed. Ted died a few years ago, he was over ninety years old. Chris Appleby, now living at Winston, pulled the shed down in 1997 to build a greenhouse.
